Laminariales es un proyecto que se lleva a cabo en la residencia CRIA, en Ensenada, Baja California. La artistala artista se encuentra con los bosques de algas laminariales que habitan las aguas frías del Pacífico y que, debido a los drásticos cambios de temperatura de las corrientes marinas, se desprenden de las rocas para terminar varadas en las playas.
Dávila decide registrar, como tradicionalmente hizo la fotografía post mortem, a estos organismos, importantísimos para el equilibrio del ecosistema, en su último tránsito: a modo de homenaje, los representa como si siguieran vivos.
As part of her residency at CRIA, Ensenada, Baja California, the artist had a deep encounter with the forests of kelp algae that inhabit the cold waters of the Pacific. Due to the drastic temperature changes of the sea currents, these marine plants break off from the rocks and end up stranded on the beaches.
As post-mortem photography traditionally did, Dávila registered these organisms, crucial for the ecosystem’s balance, in their last transit. The Laminariales series is a tribute, and the artist represents them as if they were still alive.
