Desde hace varios años, mi obra fotográfica ha girado en torno al género del paisaje entendido como algo más allá del supuesto paisaje natural. Mis intereses se enfocan mayormente en la transformación del paisaje, su invención, construcción y ficción. Desafiando la concepción temprana del paisaje como un lugar de encuentro entre lo humano y las inconmensurables fuerzas naturales, los paisajes que exploro son lugares marcados por distintos intentos de contener y aprehender tales fuerzas, lugares que cargan con todas las tentativas que se han hecho por capturarlos.
Mi proyecto anterior (Schrebergarten, 2016) fue un estudio de dos años sobre el uso del ambiente y el paisaje natural contenido como herramienta de disciplina y violencia sobre el desarrollo del cuerpo infantil, expresado en el trabajo de Daniel Gottlob Moritz Schreber en el contexto europeo del siglo XIX, antecedente del psicoanálisis y otras fuerzas de ordenamiento sobre cuerpo y psique.
Paisaje Sometido, recupera ciertos puntos de interés de esa investigación y los trae al contexto de la Ciudad de México, buscando los orígenes y estado actual de los proyectos de ordenamiento que se impusieron sobre la urbe, en especial desde su desarrollo modernizador Porfirista hasta el presente. El proyecto que presento explora, en diversas direcciones, la manipulación y la representación de los paisajes y cómo estos, a pesar de su aparentemente inofensiva belleza, pueden servir a estrategias de control, de extensión territorial o de cierta idea de funcionalidad, fallida.
For several years, my work has turned to the kind of landscape understood as something beyond the natural landscape. My interests focus mainly on the transformation of the landscape, its invention, construction, and fiction. Challenging the early conception of the landscape as a place of encounter between the human and the immeasurable natural forces, the landscapes I explore are places marked by different attempts to contain and apprehend such forces. These places contain all the attempts that have been made to capture them.
My previous project (Schrebergarten, 2016) was a two-year study on the use of the environment and the natural landscape contained as a tool of discipline and violence on the development of the child body, expressed in the work of Daniel Gottlob Moritz Schreber in the European context of the XIX century, antecedent of psychoanalysis and other forces of ordering the body and psyche.
Landscape Submitted, recovers certain points of interest from that work and brings them to the context of Mexico City, looking for the origins and current state of the territorial order imposed on the city, especially from its modernizing Porfirian development to the present. The project I present explores, in different directions, the manipulation and representation of landscapes and how these, despite their seemingly harmless beauty, can serve strategies of control, territorial extension, or some idea of functionality, failed.
